Our India was under British rule for 200 years. On 15 August 1947, our country became an independent nation freed from British rule. After several mutinies at the midnight of 14th and 15th India got independence. This year we have completed 75 years of independence. So today let us write an essay about Independence Day (Independence Day essay in Gujarati) i.e. 15th August. 15th August is celebrated as the Independence Day of India.

There are three main national festivals of India: the 15th of August as Independence Day, the 26th of January as Republic Day, and Gandhi Jayanti on the second day of October. India was ruled by Bagjo for about 200 years. Our country was freed from British slavery on 15th August 1947, we are celebrating Independence Day with great joy. On the morning of 15th August, the Prime Minister of our country hoists the flag at the Red Fort of Delhi. And the Prime Minister addresses the country. 15th August is a public holiday in all schools, colleges, government offices, and semi-government offices. Children sing patriotic songs. Along with this, sports festivals, various competitions, and parades are organized for children in schools as well as in societies. Children also celebrate the 15th of August day with joy and gaiety. On this day, the tricolor is hoisted in all government offices and the national anthem “Jana-Gana-Mana” is sung. Various programs are organized in schools and colleges, and happiness is celebrated by distributing sweetmeats.

The sacrifices of many freedom fighters like Mangal Pandey, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Ramprasad Bismil, Rani Lakshmibai, Mahatma Gandhi, Ashfaq Ulla Khan, Chandrasekhar Azad, Sukhdev, Rajguru etc. are also remembered. Some areas celebrate independence by flying kites and some by flying pigeons. Celebrating Independence Day every year keeps the history of India’s independence alive and makes people understand the true meaning of freedom.

All the people of India celebrate 15th August in their own style, some people make this day memorable with friends and families while others spend their time watching patriotic songs and movies. Also on this day, many people participate in national programs.

Through various media, the importance of Independence Day is conveyed. On August 15, 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru became the first Prime Minister of India after independence, who hoisted the Indian flag at the Red Fort in Delhi and then addressed all Indians. Other incoming Prime Ministers also carried forward this practice where every year on this day, flag hoisting, parades, and cultural events are held at Delhi’s Red Fort. Many people in the country celebrate this festival by putting flags on their clothes, houses, and vehicles.
